Twentieth Show (or The Movie Show Speaks a Different Language)

Hey Folks,
Twentieth show goes out live tomorrow Thursday 28th February 2013 at 20:00 GMT.

Originally for this one we were thinking about an Oscar's special but seeing as we'd be going out four days after the event we thought you'd all probably be a little sick of the whole thing. Plus we'd probably end up whinging through the whole show, I mean it's not as if the Oscar's are exactly relevant anyway, right?

Anyhoo after much deliberation we settled on the idea of celebrating the release of Park Chan-Wook's first english language movie, Stoker.
So the musical theme for this show will be foreign language directors who went on to work in Hollywood. We'll be drawing the tunes from their American body of work as we'd otherwise end up with nothing but canto-pop, j-pop etc. And while I'd enjoy that the other two might string me up...

Victorian Monkey's taking a bit of a side step this week and instead of the Cult Corner tying directly into the chosen theme he's going to take a look back at one of Park Chan-Wook's earlier films to give you all an idea of what the man's about.

Normal rules for the rest of the show, reviews, info on new releases etc. Tune in through the 'listen live' link to the left and we hope you enjoy.

Also don't forget to get in touch either during or after the show.

Nineteenth Show (or Romancing The Movie Show)

Hey Folks,
The Nineteenth show goes out live this evening 14th Feb 2013 at 20:00 GMT.

As you've no doubt deduced Jim has got his way and tonight's show will indeed be a Valentines special. Fear not though faithful listeners as your Movie Show crew's integrity shall remain intact as our views on what constitutes a romantic film might not (oh OK, most probably won't) match those of the more 'normal' folks out there.

Another ridiculously diverse range of tunes are on offer this evening so you'll be able to cuddle up to that special someone and relive the the memories of when music was actually, well, good. (OK, OK, good music and the Movie Show don't necessarily go hand in hand, but the intentions there...really it is!).

Victorian Monkey will be a happy primate tonight as he gets to share his favorite romantic film with you all (much to Jim's disgust, as he's not a fan of said movie, so expect a bit of 'heated discussion' between the two) and it's probably not what you'd expect.

Of course we'll be delving into current and upcoming releases with our always insightful views and criticisms (can't believe I wrote that with a straight face), so tune in through the 'BSR Listen Live' link to the left and happy listening.

And don't forget you can get in touch during the show.

Eighteenth Show (or Snake in the Movie Shows Shadow)

Hey Folks,
First off apologies for my lack of an appearance on last show and also for the complete dearth of blog updates, unfortunately the Monkey had too much research performed on him and as a result has been rather sickly these past few weeks. Anyways I'm sure most of you really aren't interested in the Monkey's well-being and so onto the important stuff; Tonight's show! Broadcasting live Thursday 31st January 2013 at 20:00gmt.

We're a bit premature with this one as tonight's theme is based around Chinese New Year, yep we know that's not happening until 10th Feb but we had to get it in tonight as next show falls dead bang on Valentines day and Jimmy D was distraught at the idea of missing the chance for a Romance based show. So distraught that he's gone and made himself ill, and so Victorian Monkey and myself decided to let him have his wish as theres no more pathetic sight than a sulky Jimmy D.

Therefore musically tonight's show will be based around Chinese/Hong Kong films and films with connections to snakes (what with the upcoming year being The Year of the Snake).
One hell of an eclectic medley of melodies to look forward to, one of our most diverse offerings yet (yeah, yeah stop with the groaning).

We'll be returning to our usual format tonight after taking a break with the last two shows and this of course means the return of Victorian Monkey's Cult Corner. He's got a true classic lined up tonight, perhaps the most deserving of the title from those he's covered so far. One of my favorite movies  and the film which kick-started the whole Heroic Bloodshed genre.
Normal service for the rest of the show, current and upcoming releases, informative (cough) chatter etc.
Tune in through the BSR Listen Live link to the left and don't forget you can contact us anytime during the show to share your thoughts. Enjoy!

Twitch's Best of 2012: Hidden Gems

Hey Folks,
just thought some of you may be interested in checking out this feature over at twitchfilm.com:

http://twitchfilm.com/2012/12/twitch-best-of-2012-hidden-gems.html

Basically the contributors to Twitchfilm have each chosen a movie from 2012 which they feel was overlooked by the general audience and is deserving of wider recognition.

Some good films on the list even a few of which we didn't know of.
Check it out, sure to be something that appeals to you.

Update: Twitch have also added some more 'best of' lists the most interesting of which is the following:

Sixteenth Show (or 2013: The Year Of The Movie Show)

Hey Folks,
Happy New Year! We hope you all had a fantastic festive season.

Our first show of the New Year will be going out live Thursday 3rd January 2013 at 20:00 GMT.

For this show we'll be doing a bit of a retrospective and focusing on the best movies of 2012. We've all come up with a list of our top five films of last year, so the tunes for the show will be pulled from them.
Should be a good mix from blockbusters to indie to foreign films and maybe we just might introduce you to a great movie you missed last year.

No cult corner this show as we'll instead be talking a bit about the movies which made our respective lists. Usual service for the rest of the show though, info on current and upcoming releases, news etc.
Tune in through the BSR Listen Live link to the left and enjoy!
